The things are all spiced up, as a number of teams have nearly confirmed their number of retentions for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. According to a report from The Times of India, the city of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is likely going to be the host city for the auction. Notably, the previous year's auction was also held in Dubai, at the Coca-Cola Arena on December 19, 2024.

As many as ten franchises will be participating in the auction, and will battle it out for picking their best possible playing combinations ahead of the next season. The bidding war will see some fierce competition from all the team owners, as the auction marks the event to prepare their respective squads for the three forthcoming seasons. The deadline for announcing retentions has been set as October 31.
3 Retentions for SRH; Steyn parts ways
Another report from ESPNcricinfo has told that finalists from the previous edition, Sunrisers Hyderabad, are among the earliest to finalize their retentions. Captain Pat Cummins, wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen, and all-rounder Abhishek Sharma are the three retentions for the Sunrisers, it mentioned. Cummins has received a fall in his pay from previous edition, INR 18 crore, whereas, a massive 338 per cent increase from last year's salary for the Proteas batter has been allotted.

Speaking more of SRH, their pace bowling coach for the 2024 edition, Dale Steyn, has confirmed on social media that he won't be continuing the position for the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league. He will, however, continue to be associated with the franchise in its two-time champion SA20 team - the Sunrisers Eastern Cape.
“Cricket announcement. A big thank you to Sunrisers Hyderabad for my few years with them as bowling coach at the IPL, unfortunately, I won’t be returning for IPL 2025. However, I will continue to work with Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 here in South Africa. Two time winners here in SA20, let’s try (and) make it THREE in a row,” Steyn wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
