IPL 2025: MI vs SRH, Match 33 – Abhishek Sharma’s shot causes thumb injury and bleeding to Karn Sharma while attempting catch
MI won the toss and elected to field first
The 33rd match of the 2025 IPL is underway between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. MI skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to bowl first.
MI's pace trio opened the bowling during the powerplay. In the first two overs, SRH managed to score only 15 runs. For the third over, Deepak Chahar took the ball, with SRH openers Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head at the crease. On the fifth ball of the third over, Chahar bowled to Abhishek.
The left-handed batter advanced to the pitch and cramped for room, dragging the heave off the inner half to mid-wicket. The ball went on the half-volley to mid-wicket and fell short of the leg-spinner Karn Sharma, who attempted to stop the ball. While doing so, Karn hurt his finger and had to walk off the field as the injury began to bleed.

Karn Sharma, the player of the match in MI's previous game against Delhi Capitals (DC), and so the injury will be a crucial thing for the five-time champions. MI won that match in thrilling fashion, defeating DC by 12 runs, which included three run outs in three consecutive balls. Meanwhile, SRH dominated Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their last match, comfortably chasing a huge total. Abhishek Sharma was the star of the chase, scoring 141 runs off 55 balls, with valuable support from Travis Head.
Both teams being back to their winning ways will aim to keep their momentum and stay in the contest.
