Punjab Kings (PBKS) are one of only three teams who have played all the seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL) but never won the title. Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the other two teams. Despite their prolonged wait for success in the cash-rich league, Punjab Kings has an impressive net worth as well as brand value.

When the IPL commenced in 2008, the franchise was named Kings XI Punjab. Yuvraj Singh was the franchise's first captain and he took the team to the semi-finals in IPL 2008, where they lost to Chennai Super Kings. Punjab played the finals of the IPL for the first time in 2014 where they suffered an agonising defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders even after setting a formidable target of 200. This continues to be their only appearance in an IPL final. They have finished in the top four only in these two seasons.

Ahead of the 2021 season, the franchise changed its name to Punjab Kings. Over the years, they have formed some star-studded teams but have not been able to fire as a unit. Stability has also been an issue with the franchise as they have had 17 different captains across their IPL history, making them the team with the most captains used in the league. Shreyas Iyer, the current captain, was acquired by the franchise for a whopping INR 26.75 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction last year.

Who are the owners of Punjab Kings?

Punjab Kings is owned by KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited. Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta, and Karan Paul are key stakeholders in the group. Dabur India's Mohit holds the largest stake at 46%. Meanwhile, Bollywood actress Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia of the Wadia Group hold 23% apiece. The remaining 8% belongs to Karan Paul.

Net Worth of Punjab Kings

According to reports, Punjab Kings had a brand value of $68 million, reflecting a 49% growth from the previous year. The franchise's net worth stands at a staggering INR 588 crore. Reports suggest that their net worth as well as brand value rank ninth among all active IPL teams, with Lucknow Super Giants, who made their debut in IPL 2022, sitting at the bottom.

IPL teams are getting richer by the day because of various factors. As the league is growing in popularity worldwide with each passing season, it is attracting big sponsorship deals, high TV ratings and online streaming. Merchandise like jerseys and other products are selling like hotcakes, which adds to the revenue. Brand endorsements and partnerships as well as global recognition are key areas as well.

Barbados Royals, who compete in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), are also owned by KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited. The franchise won the CPL title for the first time last season by defeating Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final.
