The upcoming edition of the IPL (Indian Premier League) is looming on the horizon, there will be several players that the fans will look forward to witnessing. With the conclusion of the IPL 2025 mega auction, several big names from across world cricket were roped in by different franchises.
One of the biggest talking points from the auction was Lucknow Super Giants roping in India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant for a whopping INR 27 crore. Ahead of the new season of the IPL, the Lucknow-based franchise has named Rishabh Pant as their skipper for the 2025 edition of the cash-rich tournament.
Ahead of the auction, LSG retained five players: Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni, and Mohsin Khan. However, they were on the lookout for an Indian star who could replace keeper-batter and ex-skipper KL Rahul as their franchise’s new leader.
I'm someone who wants the team to win: Pant
“If you focus on process, results will take care of itself. I am someone who wants the team to win – that fun, environment and joy it brings it’s not the same with individual performances,” said Rishabh Pant on JioStar network.
“One aspect of my captaincy is to be very proactive. It’s something that I have learned more in the past 1–2 years. It makes communication with players better. There are a lot of international players – aligning the thought process with them – is the biggest challenge. It’s a give and take. I like to play percentage cricket. Sanjiv sir also has the same thought process. You don’t have to win every match – if you win 60-70 per cent of your matches, you are still there. Over expectations shouldn’t ruin your season,” the Haridwar-born added.

Pant will win at least 5-6 IPL titles: Sanjiv Goenka
“Rishabh Pant isn’t just going to be the best player of LSG, but of IPL itself. Never seen someone with so much passion. He’s the boy next door, his connect with the players, teams and thought process is different. Conventional thought process lacks uniqueness. I see him as a leader. He will probably be the best captain IPL has seen,” LSG owner, Sanjiv Goenka, said.
“He will play 10–15 years. During that time, he can will at least 5-6 IPL titles. People will say, ‘Mahi (MS Dhoni), Rohit (Sharma), Rishabh’,” Goenka added.
