The upcoming edition of the IPL (Indian Premier League) is looming on the horizon, there will be several players that the fans will look forward to witnessing. With the conclusion of the IPL 2025 mega auction, several big names from across world cricket were roped in by different franchises.

One of the biggest talking points from the auction was Lucknow Super Giants roping in India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant for a whopping INR 27 crore. Ahead of the new season of the IPL, there have been reports that LSG are looking to name Rishabh Pant as their skipper for the IPL 2025.

Ahead of the auction, LSG retained five players: Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, Ayush Badoni, and Mohsin Khan. However, they were on the lookout for an Indian star who could replace star India batter KL Rahul as their franchise’s skipper.

He might not be the better batter than Samson: Sunil Gavaskar

Speaking of Rishabh Pant, the star batter was included in the Indian team’s squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. The BCCI revealed the squad, and to many’s surprise, star batter Sanju Samson was not included in the squad, which saw many experts raise questions. Speaking of the same, former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar came forward and clarified the situation.

“Very tough because the man has been scoring hundreds and hundreds of runs. There is no excuse to leave him out. But he was pitted against Rishabh Pant, who we all know can be a game-changer. Plus Pant is a left-hander and he is probably the better wicketkeeper, although he might not be the better batter than Samson,” Gavaskar told Sports Today.

“Pant can change the game perhaps a little more than Samson and that’s reason why Samson missed out. But Samson must not feel dejected because all Indian cricket lovers will have sympathy for him for what he has achieved,” he further added.
