Sanju Samson had to walk off the field while he was batting in the high-voltage encounter between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) after injuring his ribs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, April 16.
The Rajasthan skipper got off to a dazzling start as he smashed 31 runs off 19 balls with the help of two fours and three sixes. RR got off to a flying start in their pursuit of a 189-run target as Yashasvi Jaiswal was also firing on all cylinders from the other end. However, in the final over of the powerplay, Sanju tried to slash a googly from leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam and failed to connect. He hurt his ribs in the process as the physio rushed out to the centre to attend to him.
That was a no-ball, and Samson tried to continue batting after receiving treatment. He drilled the free-hit ball to long-off but didn't go for the run. The Kerala wicketkeeper-batter understood was in excruciating pain and he decided to leave the field to get himself treated. He didn't come out to bat later in the innings as the inaugural champions lost in the Super Over.
While speaking to JioHotstar after the match, Samson asserted that he is feeling alright and informed that the extent of the injury would be analysed on Thursday.

"It feels alright (His injury). I wasn't just ready to come back and bat. It feels alright now. We will observe it tomorrow and see how it is," Samson said.
Mitchell Starc is one of the best guys around the world: Sanju Samson
Mitchell Starc bowled an excellent final over against the Royals as he conceded just eight runs while defending nine against power hitters like Dhruv Jurel and Shimron Hetmyer. In the Super Over, the Australian speedster conceded 11 runs. Tristan Stubbs and KL Rahul took Delhi home with two balls to spare. Starc was awarded Player of the Match for his phenomenal performance in the final moments of the match. He received massive praise from Samson after the match.
"The start which we got in the powerplay, I felt it was definitely a chaseable score. I think as we all saw some fantastic bowling by Starcy. He is one of the best guys around in the world. I would like to give it to Starcy. He won them the game in the 20th over. Plan was to swing hard. I think (Sandeep) has been bowling the toughest overs for us in the last few years. Starcy took it away. A win today could have created some positivity in the dressing room," a dejected Samson said.
