IPL 2025 to kick off on March 21

In a major development for the new season of the IPL (Indian Premier League), the IPL 2025 is all set to kick off on March 21. Rajeev Shukla, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice president, told India Today about the commencement date of the marquee event. Meanwhile, while he confirmed the inaugural date, he did not state the dates of the playoffs and the final, and the entire schedule is also awaited as of now.

It is worth noting that the decision was meeting in the recent BCCI meeting, where decisions were made about the appointment of the new treasurer and secretary, with discussions focusing on the responsibilities ahead. The same is expected to be done at the next meeting, which is scheduled for the next Sunday, January 19.

Furthermore, apart from the IPL, the venue decisions of the upcoming season of the WPL (Women’s Premier League). Also, the IPL has announced the appointment of a new commissioner for a one-year term. The next meeting of the BCCI is scheduled to be held on January 18-19, it is interesting to note that the meeting will be about the finalising of the Champions Trophy squad that India will field.

With the BCCI having appointed a new secretary in the form of former Assam cricketer Devajit Saikia, he took centre stage and admitted how with the IPL, WPL, and the Champions Trophy approaching within a tight schedule, the tournaments and teams will require special attention to ensure smooth conduct of the competition. 

Kolkata Knight Riders set to defend their IPL title

Kolkata Knight Riders, who lifted the coveted IPL trophy in 2024, will enter the field at the eighteenth edition to defend the title. The side led the IPL 2024 standings, led by Shreyas Iyer, and mentored by Gautam Gambhir, they were the side to beat throughout the season, and with the new season approaching KKR will hope for another good season and clinch the title.
