Star bowler Shardul Thakur has achieved the milestone of completing 100 wickets in IPL history. The cricketer completed the landmark during the Match No. 7 of IPL 2025, played between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. The ace pacer took 97 matches to complete the three-figure mark in terms of wickets.
The match saw Shardul bowl the first over the match and dismiss the dangerous Abhishek Sharma in the third over the innings. The very next ball also saw Ishan Kishan make his way back to the pavilion, getting caught by wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. Both wickets largely put a dent in SRH's approach towards the first innings, especially during the powerplay, where they could add 62 runs, way lower than they usually have done in the recent past.
Returning for his second spell, Shardul accounted for the wickets of slog hitter Abhinav Manohar, who made only 2 off 6 balls. Hyderabad's Mohammed Shami became the fourth and final victim of the Mumbai cricketer in the match, as this was also his 100th wickets in the marquee tournament. At the end of the innings, his figures with the ball read 4-0-34-4.
The star cricketer has represented six teams in the league with LSG being the latest. Interestingly, Shardul wasn't in line to play IPL 2025, since he went unsold at the mega auction ahead of the eighteenth edition of the tournament. However, an injury to Mohsin Khan made way for his return to the league in a rather uncanny way, but the Palghar Express grabbed the opportunity with both hands. He is currently also holding the IPL 2025 Purple Cap.
"In IPL, all these things keep happening. Unfortunately few injuries here and there and there were few inquiries if I could join the camp. But LSG approached me first so I had to accept it. Zaheer Khan gave me a call. You have good and bad days, you have to go through it in cricket. It's always good to be in the scoresheet but winning the game is important to me. I keep doing something or the other. I don't look much at the wickets column or runs column, I just want to put in match-winning performances. They are coming hard at bowlers so why not go hard at them? The plan was to collectively go hard at them. We thought if we get early wickets, we'd do well because they have been going heavy from the start on flat pitches," Shardul said during the mid-innings' presentation.
