Mumbai Indians moved to third spot after the victory against SRH with five wins in the IPL 2025
3 Min Read

The Mumbai Indians (MI) secured their fourth consecutive victory in the ongoing IPL 2025, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, April 23. After winning the toss, the MI skipper opted to field first and successfully restricted SRH to a modest total. With a brilliant batting display from Rohit Sharma, MI went on to clinch their fifth win of the tournament.
Talking Points
1. MI's dominating bowling display
The MI bowlers delivered a brilliant performance in the powerplay, restricting SRH to just 24 runs and dismantling their top order early. They picked up four wickets inside the first six overs, putting SRH on the back foot right from the start. Trent Boult led the charge with a fiery spell, claiming four wickets in his four overs at an impressive economy of 6.50.
2. Klaasen counterattack goes in vain
SRH wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen played a fighting knock in the middle overs against MI’s formidable bowling attack. He tried to shift the momentum in his team’s favour, scoring a gritty 71 off 44 balls. Klaasen was well-supported by Abhinav Manohar, who contributed a steady 44 off 37 deliveries. Together, they helped SRH recover and post a respectable total of 143.
3. Rohit Sharma led the chase from the front
MI opener Rohit Sharma, having regained his form in the previous match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), continued his stellar run with a dominant performance against SRH. He played with confidence and control, finding boundaries with ease and never looking troubled at the crease. Rohit anchored the chase with a fluent 70 off 46 balls, while Suryakumar Yadav added the finishing touches with a quick-fire 40 off just 19 deliveries. In the end, MI cruised to victory, winning the match comfortably by seven wickets.
Who Said What?
Pat Cummins, SRH (Losing Captain)
Abhinav and Klassy got us to a good total, but we couldn't get through this innings. Needed a guy to really steady the ship. (On the pitch) You have to build your innings here, if you face a few balls you can catch up. (On the competition in the IPL) Difference between our first game where we got 280 odd and then on the same surface we got rolled over. In T20, the margins are also very little, you need to perform on the given day. (On the road ahead) We have a few away games now, it will be about assessing each wicket as quickly as possible. Some days it will be all out attack, some days it will be about weighing our options.
Hardik Pandya, MI (Winning Captain)
Good to have wins behind our back. Glad the boys are taking the momentum in the right way. Rohit, Deepak, Boult, SKY, everyone, always felt that once everyone started clicking, it's going to be a complete combination, overall a wonderful win. Captaincy sometimes is about instincts, I like to see the game and react and not always rely on pre-made plans. (On bowling Puthur) At that point, we wanted them to take a chance and give us a wicket. Young guy, hadn’t played a couple of games, was tough for him and I understand. We can get better in all departments, we discussed about being very clinical and very smart. We’ll take it game by game. We’re very satisfied with this win.
Trent Boult, Player of the Match
Just nice to contribute to a good win. Good game for us. To restrict them to a decent score in their home conditions was wonderful. Just wanted to hit the wicket and make the batsmen play good shots, tried to keep it simple and put pressure on the batsmen. Good to see a couple of catches held today. I’d love to bowl four in a row and let it swing but that doesn’t always happen. Need to always be ready for whenever I’m called upon. Slightly different role for me this year. It’s a low percentage ball for me but as some older bowlers would say, nothing could beat a good yorker. I still love the feeling of competing and getting wickets. It’s a huge tournament, there are hundreds of thousands of bowlers who’d love to do what we’re doing so it’s about not taking it for granted.
