Digvesh Rathi, a promising mystery spinner from Delhi, made his debut for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Delhi Capitals in Match No.4 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The 25-year-old first grabbed eyeballs with his performances in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) last year.
Playing for his local team, he bagged 14 wickets in 10 matches at an economy rate of 7.82. His performances earned him a spot in Delhi’s squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024/25. In two one-sided matches against Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, Rathi picked three wickets at an average of 6.33, and an economy rate of 2.71.
LSG’s scouting team identified Rathi’s potential, leading to his acquisition for INR 30 lakh at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Notably, his run-up resembles that of West Indies’ Sunil Narine, as he hides the ball before delivery, making it difficult for batters to pick his variations. His quick-arm action and ability to bowl googlies and carrom balls make him a valuable asset for LSG this season.
Rathi made his DPL and T20 debuts under Ayush Badoni's leadership, and now both of them are in LSG's lineup playing together. Just like Badoni’s breakout performance in his debut season, LSG fans hope that Rathi will follow suit and make an impact in IPL 2025.
His debut match turned even more special when he picked his maiden IPL wicket by dismissing Delhi Capitals’ captain, Axar Patel. In the sixth over of DC’s innings, Rathi bowled a googly, tempting Axar to go for a big shot. However, the southpaw mistimed the shot and ended up giving a simple catch to Nicholas Pooran at square leg.
