Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan made some interesting predictions for the ongoing Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL) edition, as he named his potential winners for the Orange Cap, Purple Cap, and Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards.
The 18th edition of the IPL has started with a bang, with all teams having played one match. This is the first season after the mega-auction, and most teams are expected to take some time to identify their strengths and weaknesses. While some teams, like Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), have hit the ground running, others have yet to fire on all cylinders.
There have already been some standout individual performances, including Ishan Kishan's blazing century for SRH against Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals' (DC) Ashutosh Sharma's awe-inspiring finishing act versus Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Noor Ahmad, Krunal Pandya, and Sai Kishore have also impressed with the ball for their respective teams.

Pathan’s picks for Orange cap, Purple cap, and MVP
Talking about the potential IPL Orange Cap winners, Pathan selected Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR), Shubman Gill (GT), and Virat Kohli (RCB) in a video posted on his YouTube channel. The cricketer-turned-expert stated that the Orange Cap race is incomplete without Kohli’s name. Notably, Gill and Kohli won the Orange Cap in IPL 2023 and IPL 2024, respectively.
For the IPL Purple Cap, Pathan backed three spinners—Varun Chakravarthy (KKR), Kuldeep Yadav (DC), and Noor Ahmad (GT). He added that he would have included Jasprit Bumrah in the list if the star pacer were fit to play all matches. For the unversed, India’s Test vice-captain is nursing a back injury and will miss the first few games for Mumbai Indians (MI).
As for the MVP award, Pathan included seam-bowling all-rounders Hardik Pandya (MI) and Andre Russell (KKR) in contention, alongside the spin-bowling all-rounder, Rashid Khan (GT).
