Both CSK and SRH currently find themselves at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table, making this a critical encounter for both sides as they look to stay alive in the race for the playoffs.
Toss Update
SRH captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to field first. Speaking at the toss, he acknowledged the significance of playing in Chennai and noted that the pitch looked dry. Meanwhile, CSK skipper MS Dhoni said that he also would have preferred to bowl first, especially with the possibility of dew later in the evening. He emphasized the importance of taking it one game at a time and sticking to the process.
Dewald Brevis in place of Rachin Ravindra; Sam Curran and Deepak Hooda also come into the playing XI
Sunrisers Hyderabad have gone in with Mohammed Shami in the XI with Eshan Malinga going out. Kamindu Mendis is also out with Travis Head being in the Impact Subs list.
CSK have made three changes, bringing in Dewald Brevis into the playing XI in place of Rachin Ravindra who has struggled for form since his promising start to the season. What did the captains say?
Pat Cummins, Sunrisers Hyderabad
We gonna have a bowl first. Chennai is always a big game, coming off a couple of loses but it is a new venue and boys are up for it. If the wicket is good, backing them to get a big total and otherwise also, backing them to do well. The pitch looks a little bit dry.
MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings
Dew was the main reason why we also wanted to bowl first. Almost in all the departments when you are not playing good cricket, chances are there will be pressure on the other guys as well. We want to get the process right and that is what we are looking to aim for the rest of the games. We are looking at one game at a time and we are looking at few combinations and have confidence in your ability and execute what you want to. We are not too sure how the wicket is. The groundsmen are trying their level best, I feel the old red soil wicket was a good one, the one before 2010 Champions League. We have made 2 changes. Rachin and Shankar out. Brevis and Hooda in.
