IPL Auction 2023: Where to Watch IPL auction on TV, Online, and Live Streaming Details for India
The mini-auction is set to take place on Friday, December 23 in Kochi.
The road to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season will kickstart with the mini-auction set to take place on Friday, December 23 in Kochi. The auction is easily one of the most eagerly awaited events and fans as well as the cricketers look up to this event eagerly to see what transpires.
As many as 991 players registered for the auction initially, of which only 405 are confirmed to go under the hammer. The auction will see 131 bowlers, 61 batters, 155 all-rounders, and 58 wickets keepers up for grabs on Friday in the event.
Furthermore, the apex cricket board of the nation, the BCCI confirmed the addition of an ‘impact player’ ahead of the new season. However, this ‘impact player’ can only be an Indian but with conditions on the use of overseas players in the playing XI.
This essentially means that the franchises will need to carefully asses the players at the auction before roping them in. The traditional ‘Home and Away’ format is also set to return this season after it was discontinued due to the COVID-19 restrictions in previous seasons.
The player auction will be organised at the Grand Hyatt in Kochi and will begin at 2:30 PM IST on Friday. The cumulative purse of all franchises participating in the auction is INR 206.50 crore which includes Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) entering with the maximum purse of INR 42.25 crore and Kolkata Knight Riders (INR 7.05 crore) with the least sum of money available at their disposal.
SRH will be in search of a captain as they released Kane Williamson last month and hence are expected to bid for someone like Ben Stokes. Similarly, there are other teams who would also look to rope in certain kind of players in their set-up to gear up well for IPL 2023.
