The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the upcoming IPL mini-auction will take place on December 19 in Dubai. Ahead of that, all ten franchises released a lot of players and have a lot to shop before the cash-rich league begins in about three months. The date for the commencement of the tournament isn’t finalized as there remains a possibility of the tournament being hosted by two countries.

Due to the Lok Sabha Elections in 2024, BCCI may think of organizing the tournament's first half in some other country, as it happened in 2014. However, in 2019, they were successful in hosting the entire tournament in India and that remains to be a plan as well. Still, everything will be decided after the Election Commission confirms the dates.

In the meantime, Hardik Pandya’s trade to Mumbai Indians has made the headlines. The former Gujrat Titans skipper showed interest in coming back to his old franchise as MI brought him by trading Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore. On the other hand, Kolkata Knight Riders released Shardul Thakur and Lockie Ferguson, just after a season as both cricketers were costing them more than INR 10 crore.

When it comes to defending champions Chennai Super Kings, they have released Ben Stokes after the all-rounder pulled out of the competition. Ambati Rayudu retired after the win in 2023 and hence, the franchise has a lot of money to shop from in the IPL auction.

Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings haven’t released too many cricketers and have eight slots each to fill. Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, once again released a lot of cricketers, including Harry Brook, who is deemed to be one of England’s greats. There are rumours of the franchise trading Mayank Agarwal to Kolkata but nothing has been confirmed so far.

Overall, 173 players are retained ahead of the mini-auction for IPL 2024. A total of 77 players can be bought on December 19 and a total of 262.95 crore is available to all the franchises.

Meanwhile, let’s look at everything you need to know ahead of the IPL 2024 mini-auction:
