Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have announced the setting up of their third international Super Kings Academy in Sydney, Australia. For the unversed, the other international academies of the popular franchise are in Dallas in the USA and Reading in the United Kingdom.

The Super Kings Academy in Sydney is going to be situated at Cricket Central, 161, Silverwater Road, Sydney Olympic Park. The state-of-the-art centre will have indoor and outdoor training facilities throughout the year. Cricket coaching for boys and girls will get underway from September.

“We are happy to extend our special journey with Australia, which began with the inception of IPL in 2008. Australia is a champion country with a strong sporting culture and rich cricketing legacy. The Super Kings Academy will tap into and help groom cricketers, both boys and girls, adding to the already strong system in the country," KS Viswanathan, CSK CEO, said.

"Geographical boundaries are shrinking rapidly in cricket over the last few years. With presence in India, USA, UK and now Australia, we have the opportunity to develop the next generation of cricketers through our world class facilities, strong coaching curriculum, exchange programmes and more,” he added.

The Super Kings share a great relationship with Australia as some legendary players from Down Under have donned their jersey like Matthew Hayden, Shane Watson, and current batting coach Michael Hussey. It seemed a matter of time before a Super Kings Academy was set up in the sports-loving nation.

How did CSK fare in IPL 2024?

Ahead of the 17th edition of the IPL, Mahendra Singh Dhoni handed captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. The youngster had a good start at the helm, as he led his team to four wins in the first six games. However, the Men in Yellow blew hot and cold as the tournament progressed and they eventually finished at No. 5 on the points table.

Texas Super Kings, a sister franchise of CSK, is currently playing in the second edition of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2024. They are placed at No. 2, having won two out of their first five games. They lost the Challenger match to MI New York last year but would be hopeful of going the distance this season.
