IPL Schedule 2023: Date, Time, Fixtures, Teams, Venue details announced, All you need to know

Gear up for the biggest extravaganza in franchise cricket as the sixteenth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) begins on Friday, March 31. The inaugural match of the lucrative T20 league will be played between defending champions Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. 

Fans will witness as many as 70 matches (league stage) being contested which includes 18 double headers played across 12 venues. The final of the event will be played on Sunday, May 28 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The excitement increases ten folds considering that there are quite a few changes for the upcoming edition as the traditional 'home and away' format makes a comeback after three years which essentially means that home fans will return to the stadiums to back their favourite franchises. 

Adding to this, the addition of the 'impact player' will prove to be a game-changer this season. Keeping aside the playing XI, a franchise will have to list four substitutes (Indians) at the toss and can use only one player in the contest.

After the action-packed mini-auction which took place in the bidding arena in December, teams will get down to serious business on the field starting on as all 10 teams will fight it out for the ultimate glory which is to clinch the coveted title.

Defending champions Gujarat Titans, who made their debut in the top-tier league in 2022, will be on the lookout to add another trophy to their cabinet. On the other hand, despite enduring a pretty forgettable season in the last edition, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings will be gunning to bring their glory days back. 

Meanwhile, franchises such as Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants will aim to clinch their maiden title in the forthcoming edition. Notably, the IPL will kickstart just a few days after the conclusion of the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL).
