IPL Brand Value Surge: 13% Growth to USD 12 Billion
In a remarkable testament to its burgeoning status, there has been a commendable 13% growth in brand value, taking the total to a whopping USD 12 billion. It is safe to call the IPL a business phenomenon that has been praised worldwide as it has been setting new benchmarks with each passing season.
Franchise Teams and Governance
Franchises are actively trying to hire professionals who would manage year-round player activities, organise tournaments and oversee sponsor pools. The key element in maintaining the IPL brand's strength is identified as vigorous governance. It is important for the central body to remain steadfast and on target, establishing a determined commitment to continuous value creation.
CSK most valuable IPL brand
According to the latest Brand Finance report, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) displaced Mumbai Indians (MI) from the top spot as the Men in Yellow became the most valuable team in the IPL. The franchise has an incredible brand value of USD 122 million in 2024, a rise of 52% from 2023. The legendary MS Dhoni's presence gives CSK a huge lift. According to the report, the five-time IPL champions have the highest pan-India fan engagement and a dedicated viewer base for each game. Some of the franchise's revenue-generating outlets include gate receipts, merchandise sales, sponsor partnerships, and robust digital and TV viewership.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians (MI) also saw their brand value improving by 36% to USD 119 million. Mumbai also have an impressive pan-India fan following and even though the captaincy change was not well received around the country, the fans' loyalty eventually came to the fore, helping Mumbai maintain a magnificent brand value.
On the other hand, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) saw a mind-boggling growth of 76% in their brand value in 2024. They became the fastest-growing IPL brand of the year. Having some exciting Indian talents and world-class overseas stars in their ranks, SRH turned heads with their ultra-aggressive approach which helped them finish second in the 10-team competition.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals marked a 30% growth to reach USD 81 million, while Delhi Capitals rose by 24% to $80 million. Additionally, Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants, the two newest franchises in the IPL ecosystem, have brand values of USD 69 million and USD 60 million while the Punjab Kings, with 49% growth, stand at USD 68 million.
