The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has reached its final match, with the top two teams set to lock horns in the much-anticipated summit clash. The tournament began on February 19 in Karachi, featuring eight teams, but now India and New Zealand remain to fight for the ultimate gold. The match was set to be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, March 9.
Meanwhile, the weather conditions for the scheduled day have become a topic of discussion. The rain gods played a significant role in this edition of the Champions Trophy, affecting multiple matches. Three games in Pakistan - Australia vs South Africa, Pakistan vs Bangladesh, and Afghanistan vs Australia - were impacted by rain, with two of them being completely washed out without a ball bowled. However, the games in Dubai have been unaffected by rain.
However, for the finals, the ICC has allocated a reserve day to avoid potential weather disruptions. For instance, if the game cannot be completed on Sunday, the Council has allocated Monday, March 10, as a reserve day. The fixture will have an additional two hours of extra time across both the original and reserve days to ensure completion.
Furthermore, the minimum overs per side required to have a match has been increased to 25 overs, up from 20 in the group stage. Additionally, if the encounter is interrupted and moved to the reserve day, play will resume from where it was stopped rather than restarting from scratch. Furthermore, if the final is washed out on both the original and reserve days, the trophy will be shared between the two finalists.
Notably, Dubai's weather on Sunday, according to AccuWeather, is expected to be clear. As of now, there is no forecast of rainfall, with temperatures predicted to reach up to 31°C. The atmosphere is to be partly sunny and quite warm.
