'It hurt' - Haris Rauf recalls Virat Kohli's straight six from 2022 T20 World Cup
Kohli scored an unbeaten 53-ball 82 in the T20 World Cup 2022 clash against Pakistan at MCG.
Pakistan pacer Haris Rauf has said that Virat Kohli's straight six off his length delivery left him shell-shocked and added that the moment continues to hurt him. The event happened during the blockbuster T20 World Cup 2022 clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan at the MCG.
In the penultimate over of the contest, Pakistan seemed to be in the driver’s seat with the equation being 28 needed off eight deliveries for India. However, that elegant six by Kohli off Rauf ball shifted the momentum in the Men in Blue’s favor.
I thought something wrong had happened: Haris Rauf
“Of course, it hurt when that went for a six. I didn’t say anything but it hurt me personally. I thought something wrong had happened," Haris said while speaking on a Pakistan show, ‘Hasna Mana Hai’.
“Anyone who knows cricket knows what sort of a player he is. He has played that shot now; I don’t think he can do that again. Such shots are quite rare, you can’t hit them again and again. His timing was perfect and it went for a six," he added.
While Rauf succeeded in keeping Kohli quiet during the India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2022 Super 4 clash, it was the batting icon who had the last laugh in the game that mattered the most.
Chasing 160, India were reeling at 31/4 and that is when Kohli and Hardik Pandya carried out the rescue act with a 113-run stand for the fifth wicket. Even though Pandya was dismissed in the final over, Kohli soldiered on right till the very end and remained unbeaten on 82 runs off 53 deliveries. In the end, Ravichandran Ashwin hit the winning runs off the final ball by lofting Mohammad Nawaz over mid-off.
