Pakistan appointed Mohammad Rizwan as the new white-ball Captain on Sunday, October 27. He will be leading the Men in Green in the upcoming tour of Australia.

Notably, Rizwan replaced Babar Azam as the skipper of Pakistan in ODIs and T20Is. After his promotion, the wicketkeeper-batter said that it is a dream for many to play for Pakistan. However, captaining the side is a great honour which comes with its share of challenges. Rizwan is looking forward to spearheading the side through the hurdles and bringing back the glory days.

"It is a dream for any player to play for Pakistan, it is a great honour. After that, becoming the captain of the Pakistan team. It is difficult to describe. You can't express how much honoured you are," Rizwan said in a video posted by Pakistan Cricket on their official social media handle.

"But I will give this honour in two ways. One way is that all my previous captains have been honoured by me. Simple as they were. The second is that all my previous captains have been honoured by him. I consider them as head of 24-25 crore people. It's a challenge for me. On one hand it is an honour and on other hand it's challenging. That how the team accepts this. So Inshallah, I will try to balance both," he further continued.

PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi made the announcement at a press conference in Lahore on Sunday. It was also a memorable day for Salman Ali Agha as he was appointed as Rizwan's deputy.

I have learnt from previous captains: Mohammad Rizwan

The Peshawar-born has the experience of playing 35 Tests, 74 ODIs, and 102 T20Is. Mohammad Rizwan said that he had learnt a lot from the previous captains of Pakistan. The 32-year-old hoped that he would be able to apply his methods suitably during his stint at the helm.

"To handle their pressure. The responsibility is huge. As we have done in Pakistan U-18, in the domestic and region. Allah has given us the department. But till now I have not wished for this. Because as far as I understand, all my previous captains, I have learnt from them. I have seen them. That some of their qualities are soft, emotional or angry. So we keep learning from each other. Till now, I had a wish. This responsibility is that it will be different, because Pakistan at this level and below is quite different. But from what I have learnt, may God help me to apply them," Rizwan concluded.

Notably, Rizwan is set to begin his captaincy tenure for the national team with the three-match ODI series against Australia. This will be followed by a three-match T20I series. The first ODI takes place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Melbourne on Monday, November 4.
