'It is the ICC's job to ensure that India comes' - Javed Miandad slams ICC on BCCI's stance of not coming to Pakistan for Asia Cup

Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad has given a strong response to the ongoing controversy revolving around the hosting rights of the 2023 Asia Cup. After a final decision was not made at the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting held recently, reports indicate that the tournament could now be organised in the UAE instead of Pakistan with Pakistan retaining the right to be the official host of the event.

It is due to the BCCI’s stand against travelling to Pakistan to play the Asia Cup that the tournament could possibly be moved out of the country and be hosted elsewhere. However, the final decision on the matter will come in March.

After the ACC meeting, a statement was released by the organisation, which read, "The ACC had a constructive dialogue on the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. The Board agreed to continue discussions on operations, timelines, and any other specifics with a view to ensuring the success of the tournament," as reported by India Today.

India can go to hell if they don’t want to come to Pakistan: Miandad

Speaking about the same at a media event in Pakistan, the 65-year-old Miandad was not shy about blasting the ICC for not taking action against India regarding the BCCI's stance on not travelling to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023 because of the political tensions between the two countries.

"I have said this before as well, India can go to hell if they don't want to come to Pakistan. It doesn't bother us. It is the ICC's job to ensure that India comes. If the ICC can't control it, then what's the use of being a governing body? The ICC should take strict action. Why is it there if they are not able to control these things? They have to put an end to things. ICC should take action against this kind of issue," Miandad said as reported by India Today.

He also added that the rules should be the same for every team and that the BCCI does not run cricket. He also insinuated that the Indian public would not be able to tolerate it if India travelled to Pakistan and lost. The BCCI has always maintained that it would abide by the guidelines issued by the Indian government regarding travel to Pakistan.
