Mohammed Shami returned to the Indian team during the five-match T20I series against England after a gap of 14 months due to a knee injury. The experienced seamer has yet to gain his straps but the legendary Kapil Dev said that he should be given more time to get his rhythm back.

Shami played two matches in the T20I series against England and picked up three wickets. However, two of those wickets were that of the tailenders. In the ongoing ODI series, Shami has played both games, picking up two wickets at an expensive economy rate of 6.57. The Bengal pacer conceded 66 runs in 7.5 overs in the second ODI.

While Indian fans are concerned about Shami's indifferent form, Kapil urged them to be a bit more patient as the 34-year-old is returning from a major injury.

“It’s not that difficult to make a comeback from injury as a player has a strong mindset. However, there remains a question if he will be able to make the same impact with injury? It takes time, he will have to play a lot of matches unlike batters. If you haven’t bowled in the past six months or a year and are coming back from an injury, then it takes time to find your rhythm again. Shami has massive ability, let’s hope he comes back fully recovered and doesn’t get injured again. If a player needs more time to be fully fit, he should take it because injuries like these leave a fear in the bowler’s mind,” said Kapil Dev on Cricket Adda.

Meanwhile, there is still no clarity regarding Jasprit Bumrah's injury status. Kapil stated that the 31-year-old's absence will be a huge dent in India's chances of doing well in the Champions Trophy.

“Absolutely, there’s no doubt about that, what Jasprit Bumrah has achieved in the past two years, I don’t think any other fast bowler in the world has been able to do that. When big players like him get injured, it leads to problems for the team. Let’s hope, he makes a comeback soon,” he added.
