'It took almost 10 years to get the trophy' - Sneh Rana takes cues from Indian men’s team for ICC trophy

Under the leadership of Mitahli Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur, India have come closer to an ICC trophy several times in recent history but couldn’t win the gold. They lost the final of the ODI World Cup against England in 2017 and later lost to Australia in the summit clash of the 2020 T20 World Cup. They went on to lose to Australia in the finals of the Commonwealth Games as well, settling for a silver. 

Even after so many heartbreaks, Sneh Rana is confident of getting the job done in the upcoming T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to take place in Bangladesh later in the year. Rana cited the example of the Indian men’s team, who failed to win any ICC trophy for over a decade. Despite being the favourite, the Men in Blue fell short time and again before lifting the T20 World Cup in 2024.

She added that to achieve something big, it won’t happen overnight. The 30-year-old talked about the importance of sacrifice and struggle to win something major for the country.

“The Indian women's cricket team, if you look at the past 2-3 years, they are doing their best. For (winning) the ICC trophy, let's take the men's (team's example), it took almost 10 years to get the trophy. They have been preparing and working hard for it for a long time,” Rana was quoted as saying by PTI.

“To achieve something big, it will not happen overnight. It will take time. It will take a lot of sacrifices, a lot of struggle, a lot of things in between. But eventually, we will get there,” she added.

Rana talks about the importance of fielding

Indian women’s team has been criticized consistently for their poor fielding. Ahead of their opening game in the Asia Cup, Rana acknowledged that and noted that the players are giving their all on the field and no one is casual, especially when they are representing the country.

“When we play N number of matches, the chances of errors are more. But it doesn't mean that someone is bad at it. Obviously, as a player, when you are on the field, you want to always do your best for your country. No one is there to say that it's okay, it will happen (ho jayega). (But) it could also be a matter of a bad day for someone,” Rana added.
