'It’d be nice to pile on their misery' - David Warner ahead of England clash

Veteran Australia opener David Warner has stated that he wants to add more misery to England when both sides square off in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup. The match will be contested at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 4.

Warner, who is in exceptional form, however, admitted that the Jos Buttler-led side are the "most dangerous" team in the ongoing tournament. The southpaw added that England consists of quality batters and bowlers he respects.

“It’d be nice to pile on England’s misery. But they’re the teams that are the most dangerous when there’s nothing to lose. They’ve got some very, very (high) quality players and we have to respect it. They bat to 11 and their bowling unit is very good,” Warner was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.au.

Warner, one of the stand out players of Australia, further opened up about his mindset while he is at the crease. It is worth noting that his batting is as destructive as ever and is the tournament's second-leading run scorer, having scored 413 runs in six games. He has scored two centuries and one half-century in the ten-team tournament.

“Everyone keeps writing me off. I’m doing as well as I can, I’m just trying to go out there and start as well as I can up front in the first 10 (overs). If I get in, I try and make the most of it,” the 37-year-old added.

He went on to speak about having Travis Head back to the lineup. “It’s also awesome to have Heady and Mitch there as well, because it allows that pressure to keep being put back onto the opposition,” he concluded.

After making a dismal start in the World Cup, Australia produced a stunning comeback, winning four games in a row. Notably, the Pat Cummins-led side are one of the favourites to qualify for the semifinals of the marquee event. Meanwhile, England have had a forgettable campaign, as they are languishing in the bottom of the ten-team points table.
