'It's a feeling you can't really put into words' - South African skipper Sune Luus on Women's T20 World Cup final tickets being sold out

South Africa scripted history on Saturday, February 24 as they entered the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 after beating England in the semi final by six runs. It’s for the first time that a senior South African team (men’s or women’s) will be playing in the final of a World Cup tournament. 

Ahead of the big final against Australia on February 26, South Africa captain Sune Luus was ecstatic and in disbelief at the same time as people have been standing in queues to buy tickets for the World Cup final which now have been completely sold out. Luus further said that she can’t put into words the amount of support the hosts have got during the tournament.

"Yeah, I think that's a feeling you can't really put into words. I think it's something we never thought would happen in our country, you know people standing in queues to buy tickets for a women's cricket match," Luus said during the press conference ahead of the summit clash. 

The allrounder hopes for the women’s matches to continue to pull crowds in South Africa after the World Cup gets over.

"I think that's, just where we are as a country at the moment and that's where you know the women's sport is growing to and I think it's something very very special, and I'm hoping you know once this World Cup is finished and we play normal series and normal matches in South Africa, the crowd won't be any different, and the vibe and the positive energies will be the same," Luus said.

The 27-year-old further spoke about the success of the World Cup in South Africa and said that whoever is not taking women’s cricket seriously now is at a loss.

"I think there's a lot of good things that's already come out of this World Cup in this country. I think if you don't take women's cricket seriously now, then I guess there's no hope for whoever you are. So I think you kind of have to get on the train of women's cricket or I don't know, go play soccer or something," she further said.

The final of the Women's T20 World Cup will be played on Sunday, February 26 at Newlands, Cape Town.
