'It's a new brand of cricket we're trying to play, and I think we've done that perfectly' - Harry Brook after series loss to Australia

Harry Brook was pleased with how England implemented a new approach despite going down 2-3 in the five-match series against arch-rivals Australia. The Three Lions lost the rain-curtailed final ODI by 49 runs (via DLS method) at County Ground, Bristol on Sunday, September 29, as Australia rode on Travis Head's all-round brilliance to take the series.

England smashed 202/3 at the end of 25 overs after being asked to bat first. However, they lost their last seven wickets for just 107 runs in 24.2 overs in a bid to keep the runs flowing. Australia played with an aggressive mindset as well and smashed 165 runs for the loss of two wickets in 20.4 overs before rain stopped play. No further play was possible as Australia won the match by a convincing margin.

Brook, however, feels that England's new approach to ODI cricket will help them in the long run. The stand-in skipper for the series was happy with how his team executed the game plan during the series.

"It's not just the present now, we're looking long-term," said Brook, who was named the ODI player of the summer.

"We're trying to build towards the bigger series and competitions. It's a new brand of cricket we're trying to play, and I think we've done that perfectly. Getting out of the power play, we didn't get the wickets we wanted, but outside of that, we've done really well," he added.

Brook didn't have a great record in ODI cricket heading into this series. However, he managed to showcase his potential with some fantastic performances, especially in the last three games, where he smashed two half-centuries and a ton.

"It's nice to get on the board, score a few runs and contribute to some wins. I haven't played too much, but it's nice to finally get the tempo of ODI cricket," the 25-year-old said.

Brook also said that he enjoyed captaining the England side for the first time. However, he mentioned that he will now sit back and let regular skipper Jos Buttler take charge.

"Captaincy has been good. It's something I might think about in the future, but I'll sit back and let Jos do it for now," said Brook.
