‘It's all about passing on the mantle to the youngsters’ - Kemar Roach opens up on his role as mentor in West Indies side

West Indies pacer Kemar Roach has recently come forward to talk about his role in the team as a mentor. Seeing young Shamar Joseph’s brilliant debut, Kemar Roach opined that the young pacer has a brilliant career ahead of him.
Currently, the Windies are occupied with taking on Australia in a two-game Test series, the first of which was won by Australia in dominant fashion by 10 wickets. With the second Test set to begin from January 25, West Indies will be hopeful of doing better. Ahead of the second Test, Roach came forward to opine that he had mentors like Jerome Taylor, Daren Powell, and Fidel Edwards when he was new to the team, and now he can be one for young Joseph.
“I had mentors when I started. Jerome Taylor, Daren Powell, Fidel Edwards. Some guys were around to help me when I started my career. I took knowledge and learned from it. So obviously for me now, it's all about passing on the mantle to the youngsters,” Roach said during the pre-match press conference.

Furthermore, Kemar Roach heaped praise on Shamar Joseph after his sensational debut against Australia in the first Test. Opining that he has a big career ahead of him and that he is willing to learn a lot.
“He's [Shamar] got a very good career ahead of him. At this stage, he's willing to learn. We have a lot of conversations. So, I think once he keeps doing that, not just coming from me but anyone who he thinks can help him in his career, he can take a lot of knowledge on board and become a better cricketer,” Roach concluded.
Notably, Shamar Joseph scored 36 runs in his first Test and he also took a wicket off the first ball of his Test career. Moreover, the fiery pacer went on to complete his five-wicket haul. As the second clash approaches, Joseph will look to further build upon his performance hopefully for a winning cause when West Indies clash with Australia once again in the ongoing Test series.
