West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein made bowling look like child's play on Saturday in Providence Guyana. His career-best spell of 5/11 in four overs bamboozled the Ugandan batters, who had no answers to his deliveries. But Hosein later revealed that this mastery is a result of his relentless hard work.

Hosein represents a new breed of spin bowlers who operate in the powerplay overs with clever variations. More than just turn, he generates prodigious swing and drift, skills very few spinners have. It's this rare ability that was the main reason behind most of his wickets against Uganda on a helpful Providence surface.

Bowling at a good pace with an upright seam, Hosein's deliveries drifted late, causing batters to miss the line frequently. His preparation has been meticulous, working closely with another modern spin maestro, Sunil Narine.

"I've been doing lots of work here. We had a camp before we came into the World Cup, but I've been doing lots of work with Sunil Narine as well. He's a very close friend of mine. So, it's just about constant work. And especially when you start getting success your way, we know the game has evolved so much that guys are going to be reading about you. Guys are going to be doing their homework. So, you always have to try and stay one step ahead," he said as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

We have been playing good cricket over the last 12 years: Akeal Hosein

Maintaining a disciplined length and consistent pace forced the Ugandan batters onto the front foot which eventually went in Hosein's favour.

"Today I thought I'd judge my spell mainly on the lengths that I bowl, and I know once I execute those lengths it'll be tough for most batsmen to play. I think it's a pitch where if you really go searching, sometimes you can miss your length," he added.

The co-host West Indies have started very well in their home World Cup. They have dominated Papua New Guinea and Uganda, but have tough games ahead against New Zealand and Afghanistan. But Hosein is brimming with confidence.

"I think going into the third game, we definitely are force to reckon with. We have been playing good cricket over the last 12 years and we have improved immensely in areas that we weren't the best at," he concluded.
