'I’ve noticed how they vary their seam position' - Manav Suthar credits Indian spin duo after 7-fer in Duleep Trophy 2024

Rajasthan's latest prodigy, Manav Suthar has sailed keeping his feet on two different boats. Father Jagdish desired the 22-year-old to make bowlers around the world panic. But little did Jagdish envision that he would turn out into a spin wizard while admitting his son to a coaching programme in Sriganganagar district. 

Suthar is playing Duleep Trophy 2024 for India C and claimed seven scalps in the second innings. He bowled 19.1 overs, giving away 49 runs with seven maidens. Thanks to the web he weaved around India D batters, the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side was provided an assailable target of 233.

Suthar had little impact bowling in the first innings. Sending 42 balls towards the batters, he splurged 34 runs with just one wicket in the kitty. The left-arm Orthodox bowler revealed that delivering a spell tad low on pace helped his cause.

"To get wickets, I’d have to contain them first. That’s what I did. After the first innings, I figured that I’d have to slow down a bit to get some turn, which would be handy with the bounce on offer. Each pitch is different, so how you use your skillset is what matters,” said Suthar as quoted by Indian Express.

In the first innings, India C pacers comprising, Anshul Kamboj, Vijaykumar Vyshak and Himanshu Chauhan claimed seven wickets. The two spinners in the side claimed one wicket apiece.

“Just because seamers were getting wickets, I can’t say there isn’t much help for spinners. So I was backing my skillset, and believed I could do it here," the bowling all-rounder continued.

The left-arm spinner further revealed that he took a leaflet out of R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja’s spin chronicles and focused on fetching help with seam rather than pitch itself. He even dismantled the oppositon lower order consisting Srikar Bharat and Axar Patel. 

"In the time I’ve spent watching Ashwin and Jaddu bhai, I’ve noticed how they vary their seam position, trajectory and speed to adjust to different pitches,” Suthar concluded.
