In a major development for the Japan Cricket Association (JCA), it was announced that the board will receive membership in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). The board will receive the membership from the current president of the ACC, Jay Shah.

Executive Board member and Chairman of the Finance and Marketing Committee of ACC, Shammi Silva, had a meeting with Alex-San and Ashley De Silva, CEO of SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket), in attendance. Representatives from both the SLC and the JCA discussed a possible MoU (memorandum of understanding) to better help Japan’s development of cricket. Special Adviser to the JCA and Goodwill Ambassador, Priyantha Kariyapperuma, coordinated the meeting between the SLC and the JCA.

Speaking of the ACC (Asian Cricket Council), the board is set to undergo a presidency change in 2025. With current president Jay Shah’s tenure coming to an end in the following year, it is the turn of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take on the presidency of the ACC.

Besides, it is worth noting that the leader of the PCB will be taking charge of the ACC in 2025 for a two-year term. The meeting, which was held in Bali, Indonesia, had Pakistan represented by the Acting Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Chief Election Commissioner Shah Khawar, alongside Chief Operating Officer (COO) Salman Naseer. Furthermore, it is worth noting that after Bangladesh, it was Sri Lanka Cricket’s turn, but with the consent of the board, they sacrificed their turn and voted to extend Jay Shah’s term for yet another year.

The same decision was agreed upon by the member countries, and after Jay Shah’s term comes to an end, the leader of the PCB will be taking the reins of the ACC. It is also interesting to note that no discussion took place in the meeting about the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup as well.
