Any series between Australia and India is a feat to witness, especially when it comes to the longest format of the game. The forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy is no different. With the spectacle to be played Down Under, it is anticipated that the batters are going to make merry on most if not all of the tracks. Hence, it becomes imperative that the bowlers do come to the party.
In a recent discussion, Pakistan's interim head coach, Jason Gillespie, provided insight into the same, namedropping the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Pat Cummins. He commended their prowess with the ball and elaborated their core skillset which makes them ever-so menacing for batters.
"Their major strength is they are pretty relentless in attacking the batters. They have good pace, bowl challenging lines and lengths, and are always forcing batsmen into tough decisions," said Gillespie while being interviewed by The Indian Express.
Can also bowl those unplayable deliveries: Gillespie
The ex-right arm quick also brought clarity as to why he thinks that the two are difficult customers to deal with.
"They are relentless with their accuracy and discipline, can also bowl those unplayable deliveries. Whether it swings really late or it just has that extra half-yard of pace or it just does something off the surface which not a lot of bowlers have," he added.
While Cummins' record in Australia is commendable, it is Bumrah's numbers in Tests in Australia which stands out. The pacer has scalped 32 wickets in seven Tests at a miserly economy rate of 2.47. The Australian skipper and the Indian vice-captain are expected to play a crucial part in their teams' performances, and it will be interesting to see who fares better.
