Jasprit Bumrah will go down as best all-format bowler of all time: Glenn Maxwell

Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell believes that ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah has the quality to be remembered as the best all-format bowler of all time. The 30-year-old is currently the number-one ranked Test bowler and was phenomenal for the national team in the ODI World Cup 2023 and T20 World Cup 2024. India qualified for the summit clash of both the events and went on to win the latter to end a 12-year title drought.

Maxwell highlighted that Bumrah has variety in his arsenal as he can ace the slower ball, bowl a great yorker, and also swing the ball both ways. He also pointed out that the Indian international has the power to change the delivery at the last moment and that is how he troubles the batters. 

“I think the best bowler I would have faced would probably be Bumrah. I think he’s probably going to go down as the best all-format bowler of all time. His release point, because he releases it from so far out in front of himself, almost feels like he can change where he’s bowling right at the last moment,” Maxwell said in a video shared by ESPNCricinfo.

“Unbelievable slow ball, great yorker, has the ability to swing it both ways; he’s got a brilliant wrist, and he’s got a good sniff. It feels like he’s got all the tricks of a really good fast bowler,” the 36-year-old added.

Notably, Bumrah recently played an important part in the Test series win against Bangladesh. He was rested from the T20Is to manage his workload before returning against New Zealand. However, the pacer could not make much of an impact as the Kiwis have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series with back-to-back wins in Bengaluru and Pune.

It needs to be seen if the India play him in the third Test in Mumbai or give him some rest ahead of the five-match series against Australia, which is slated to begin on November 22.
