A pivotal force behind India's culmination of an 11-year drought in ICC trophies was star pacer, Jasprit Bumrah. Throughout the entirety of the T20 World Cup 2024, Bumrah's unwavering accuracy and ability to perform under pressure were standout features that facilitated India's success, particularly in the knockout stages.
Bumrah's tally of 15 wickets in eight matches, boasting an impressive average of 8.26 and a mind-boggling economy of 4.17, can be credited as instrumental in orchestrating the title triumph, which ultimately won him the Player of the Tournament award.
The Ahmedabad-born came to his team's rescue even in the final of the elite event, delivering a pivotal performance in his last two overs, conceding only six runs and claiming the crucial wicket of Marco Jansen, which proved to be a turning point which tilted the scale towards India.
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer, Dinesh Karthik, recalled his commentary on air, likening Bumrah to a Kohinoor diamond (the most precious piece of diamond). He referenced Bumrah as the premier bowler across all formats, attributing this acclaim to his consistent ability to perform under pressure time and again.
“When I was on air, I said he is more valuable than a Kohinoor diamond. Genuinely, he is the greatest all-format bowler at the moment in world cricket. Under pressure to come and keep performing time and time again, not many can do that,” stated Karthik, while speaking on Cricbuzz.
Bumrah is a captain's dream: Karthik
Furthermore, Karthik, recently appointed as the batting coach and mentor of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, emphasized that what distinguished Bumrah and made him exceptional was his ability to excel and deliver decisive performances at any juncture of the match, rendering him an ideal asset for any skipper.
“He’s a captain’s dream, someone who wins at any stage, any play of the match — that’s what makes him so special. Brilliant, fantabulous — that’s the word for him,” added Karthik.
