Bumrah's injury mystery: Will NCA scan reports reveal his Champions Trophy availability on Saturday?

India's ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah recently underwent thorough scans at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, with the results expected to be available within the next 24 hours. The outcome of these scans will play a crucial role in deciding his availability for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.

The Indian team management, including captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir, are awaiting clarity on Bumrah’s fitness status. According to a Times of India report, Bumrah’s scans and medical evaluation at the NCA will determine the next course of action regarding his rehabilitation. The BCCI medical team is set to conduct a thorough assessment, and an official update is expected by Saturday.

Additionally, Dr Rowan Schouten, a New Zealand-based orthopaedic surgeon who previously operated on Bumrah in 2023, is likely to be consulted once the reports are ready. The selection committee will take a final call on his participation in the Champions Trophy based on the medical recommendations.

Notably, Jasprit Bumrah sustained back spasms during the final Test of India's recent tour of Australia, which limited his participation in the crucial match. Following this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) decided to sideline him from the ongoing ODI series against England.

Initially, there were expectations that he would recover in time for the third ODI, but his name was quietly removed from the squad without an official statement from the board. Mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy was added to the squad ahead of the opening game.

“Obviously, we are waiting on some update about his scan and stuff which was due to happen in the next few days. Once we get that scan, we will be able to give you more clarity on where he is," Rohit had said ahead of the first ODI.

With the Champions Trophy scheduled to begin on February 19, the Indian management is closely monitoring Bumrah’s recovery progress. The deadline for finalizing the squad is February 12, making the upcoming medical assessment critical for India's tournament preparations.
