Jasprit Bumrah would have ripped on Bradman’s peak in the matter of balls: Adam Gilchrist

"It would have been much further south of 99.94 (Bradman’s batting average) that he sits at," said Gilchrist.

Jasprit Bumrah was recently named as ICC Player of the Month for December 2024. He had also won the same award for the month in June 2024. The pacer was in marauding form against Australia in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. In five Tests, he bowled in nine innings and picked 32 wickets at an average of 13.06 and was rightly adjudged Player of the Series.

The right-arm pacer has played 45 Tests and has already 205 wickets to his name at an astounding average of 19.4. In 2024 he scalped 71 wickets at an average of a mind-boggling 14.93. While heaping praises of the pacer, former cricketer, Adam Gilchrist has gone onto say that the pacer could have ripped peak Australian legend, Don Bradman and would have affected his record average of 99.94 in Tests.

“I am not rating him, no number befitting what he is in world sport. He would have ripped on Bradman’s peak in the matter of balls. It would have been much further south of 99 (Bradman’s batting average) that he sits at. You cannot have a reward that is high enough for him,” Gilchrist said on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.

“It is just a different ball game, a different planet, that Bumrah is playing on compared to everyone else,” he added.

Not only Gilchrist, but several former cricketers too, did not shy away from praising the Ahmedabad-born when he crossed the 200 wicket mark in red-ball internationals. The fact that the 31-year-old did so at an average less than 20 has made them compared him with former West Indies greats, who have wreaked havoc bearing leather in their hand. Despite his efforts, India eventually lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 by 1-3 and were out of World Test Championship 2025 finals for the first time.
