Jay Shah in pole position to head ICC's Finance And Commercial Affairs Committee

BCCI's stronghold in the ICC has been further bolstered after the appointment of BCCI secretary Jay Shah as the head of the International Cricket Council's (ICC) Finance and Commercial Affairs (F&CA) committee, according to reports. Shah's appointment is slated to be made official at the annual ICC board meeting.

Jay Shah, who was re-appointed as the BCCI secretary last month at the 91st Annual General Meeting of the BCCI, will oversee the proceedings of the influential committee, taking over from Ross McCollum, who will be retiring soon. The F&CA committee makes the major financial policy decisions before the approval of the ICC board. 

The committee also makes the final decision pertaining to the annual budget allocations from the overall revenue pool of the ICC, along with the allocations for ICC events in each cycle. 

Shah, along with the newly appointed IPL chairman Arun Dhumal, landed in Australia to take part in the ICC's Board meetings in Melbourne with Shah as the BCCI representative, replacing former Indian skipper and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly. Meanwhile, Dhumal will be named a member of the chief executives' committee.

Earlier today, the apex cricketing body announced the re-election of Greg Barclay as the chairman of the ICC for a second two-year term. The Kiwi was initially named the chairman of the board in November 2020 and was re-elected for a second term after the withdrawal of his opposition Tavengwa Mukuhlani from the process.

"It is an honor to be re-elected as the Chair of the International Cricket Council and I would like to thank my fellow ICC Directors for their support. Over the last two years, we have made significant strides forward with the launch of our global growth strategy that provides clear direction to build a successful and sustainable future for our sport," Barclay said in an official statement to the ICC after he was appointed the ICC Chair for a second term.
