Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer have been in the news of late after they decided to skip Ranji Trophy matches for their respective teams, not paying heed to specific instructions from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The duo were subsequently left out of the BCCI central contracts.

While Iyer is now playing the Ranji Trophy semi-final encounter between Mumbai and Tamil Nadu, Ishan Kishan will be seen in action during the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly opined that BCCI secretary Jay Shah, president Roger Binny, and the national team selectors should speak to Kishan. The Prince of Bengal, who is the Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals, said that all the players picked in the Delhi-based franchise have featured in the three premier domestic tournaments in India - Ranji Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He went on to remind everyone that senior pro Ishant Sharma has also played Ranji Trophy this year.

“For someone like Ishan Kishan, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, president Roger Binny and the selectors need to speak to him. All this while he has played Ranji and then played white-ball cricket. Has it made him a poorer player? It hasn’t,” Ganguly told The Times of India.

“All the players picked in Delhi Capitals have played Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy. Even Ishant Sharma has played Ranji,” the former BCCI president further added.

BCCI terminated central contracts of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan

For the unversed, Iyer was a part of Grade B, while Kishan was in Grade C in BCCI's previous list of central contracts. The Mumbai batter played in the first two Tests of the ongoing five-match series against England before being excluded from the squad for the last three encounters. Meanwhile, Kishan's last India appearance came in November in the T20I series against Australia at home. He travelled with the Indian team to South Africa for the multi-format tour but returned home citing 'personal reasons'.
