In a move met with unanimous approval at its annual general meeting, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has extended the term of President Jay Shah by one year. The decision was proposed by Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket, for the second time and was backed without dissent by all ACC members.

Taking the reins in January 2021, Shah, the youngest administrator to be re-appointed as ACC President, has been instrumental in propelling cricket's growth across the Asian region. Under his visionary leadership, the ACC successfully organised the Asia Cup in T20 and ODI formats in 2022 and 2023, respectively, showcasing Asia’s prowess in hosting premier cricket events.

Silva commended Shah for his crucial role in advancing cricket in Asia, highlighting his pivotal contribution to steering the ACC toward significant progress in promoting and developing the sport across the region.

“Jay has played a pivotal role in steering the ACC towards significant progress in promoting and developing cricket across the Asian region.” Under Shah’s guidance, the ACC has been instrumental in unearthing and promoting new talent in cricketing powerhouses like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka," Sri Lanka Cricket, President, Shammi Silva said as quoted by News 18.

Jay Shah's tenure has not only witnessed successful flagship events but also marked an active effort to promote cricket in emerging nations like Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, and Nepal. The ACC board also commended Shah for his strategic financial acumen, enhancing stability through lucrative commercial and broadcast deals.

"I am pleased that the ACC Board supported the proposal unanimously. Jay has a proven record of boosting finances through commercial and broadcast deals and channelizing the finances to the grassroots level, uplifting the associate members," Silva added.

I am grateful to the ACC Board for their continued trust: Shah

Thankful for ongoing trust, Jay Shah stresses the commitment to the sport's comprehensive growth, especially in regions where cricket is still emerging.

“I am grateful to the ACC Board for their continued trust. We must remain committed to ensuring the all-round development of the sport with a special focus on regions where it is still in its infancy. The ACC is committed to nurturing cricket across Asia," Shah said.
