'I’m incredibly excited to join up with the squad,' said Yadav.
Indian bowling all-rounder Jayant Yadav has signed for Warwickshire County Cricket Club for the last three matches of the ongoing County Championship season. He will join his India teammate Mohammed Siraj in the club at Edgbaston next week for their home game against Somerset, which will begin on September 12.
Yadav said that signing for Warwickshire was something he could not say no to. He believes that these three games in the English County Championship would improve his game and also provide more opportunities in the future. He said that he has heard great things about Edgbaston and it is a privilege to call it his home.
“This will be my first County Championship experience and I’m incredibly excited to join up with the squad for the final three games,” Yadav was quoted as saying on Warwickshire County Cricket Club’s official website.
Signing of Jayant gives us an enviable array of options: Warwickshire
“When I was asked if I would like to join Warwickshire it was something I couldn’t say no to. Having played my sixth Test earlier this year, I believe these three games will help me improve my game for more opportunities in the near future," said the Indian all-rounder. “I have never played at Edgbaston, but I have heard great things about the stadium and it will be a privilege to call it my home."
The 32-year-old also extended his gratitude to the club and the BCCI for the signing, and said that he looks forward to joining the team next week. The Director of Cricket at Warwickshire, Paul Farbrace stated that having someone with the experience that Yadav has in Tests and First-Class cricket could be vital for their final three games.
Farbrace also added that adding Yadav gives them plenty of options in the bowling line-up. “It was vitally important that we strengthened our bowling line-up for the run-in and the signing of Jayant, plus Siraj gives us an enviable array of options.” Yadav has played six Test matches for India, and picked up 16 wickets and scored 248 runs.
