India women will commence their T20 World Cup 2024 campaign with the first game against New Zealand on October 4 at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai. It is worth noting that this is the ninth edition of the marquee event and India have not managed to clinch the title even once.

Ahead of the tournament opener, India women batter, Jemimah Rodrigues has revealed the source of motivation going into the tournament. She noted that the men’s team lifting the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy in June has made the journey look real. She even described the euphoria before Indian men lifted an ICC trophy after 13 years.

"I remember watching the men's final. We had a Test match against South Africa, and on Day 3, we stayed up until 12 or 1:30 in the night watching the match. I remember that moment clearly. We've always dreamt of winning the World Cup, but seeing them win just before our World Cup made it feel so much more real. That desire and passion to win was ignited when we saw Rohit Sharma and the team lifting the trophy. A few of us were in the room, and we are usually a talkative bunch, especially me, but when that happened, we all fell silent,” said Jemimah to Star Sports.

India women came close to winning the trophy in 2020 but Australia emerged out to be the better team on the day of the finals. They are placed in the same group as six-time champions, Australia and the team would like to settle the dues. Jemimah noted that she is solely focusing on the process and not the result.

"I do not want to think too much about the result, honestly. The dream is there, but we are focusing more on the process and what we need to do. We will let God take care of the result," she concluded.
