Joe Root has been incredible in the last couple of years as far as Test cricket is concerned. He recently hit a twin century at Lord’s to complete 34 centuries in Test cricket, the most by any cricketer in the modern era. Since 2021, the former England captain has been featured in 49 Tests and has scored 4567 runs, at an average of 56.38, and hit 17 centuries, which is phenomenal, to say the least.

New Zealand legend Kane Williamson, who is regarded as one of the fab fours, alongside Root, Virat Kohli and Steven Smith, stated that he is a big fan of the England cricketer. He talked about Root’s incredible numbers in red-ball cricket and about his consistency in the longest format of the game.

“You mentioned Joe Root. He has been something else for a long period. There is a lot of attention on what he might be able to achieve in a number of years, and it's just incredible that that conversion can even be had. He has been phenomenal. I have been a big fan of his. Not just him, but the other guys (Virat Kohli and Steven Smith) as well. Amazing how they have sort of moved the game forward in a big way,” Williamson told reporters while praising Root in Greater Noida.

Williamson opens up on sub-continent tour

New Zealand will play a one-off Test against Afghanistan in Noida, before playing a three-match series against India. Williamson addressed the challenges they will face in the sub-continent and added that the game against Afghanistan is as an opportunity to prepare well for the prestige fight against India.

“I mean, we are going to be challenged in a number of ways. But, the opportunity to have a block here for us as a team to look have the sort of experiences that we are going to have for the next sort of two-and-a-half months and be better for it. It's an exciting opportunity. Nice to be here, preparing for the first Test. We are looking to take those small steps and try and get familiar with those conditions,” he added.
