Archer's absence from professional cricket dates back to May 2023 when he suffered an elbow stress fracture while playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Despite being acquired by Mumbai Indians in the 2022 mega auction, Archer's stint with the team remained marred by injuries, limiting him to just four matches in the 2023 season.
His injury woes persisted during the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he was part of England's squad but only as a reserve player. However, a mid-tournament setback saw him being sent back home, missing out on subsequent series, including the ones in the West Indies.

He's someone you want to throw the ball to: Jos Buttler
Despite his challenging journey marked by injuries, Archer's talent has not gone unnoticed. He recently secured a two-year ECB central contract, reflecting England's confidence in his abilities. With the T20 World Cup scheduled for June and July, England remain hopeful that Archer will regain full fitness and play a pivotal role in defending the title.
England's T20I skipper, Jos Buttler, expressed optimism about Jofra Archer's ability to fully recover and participate in the T20 World Cup scheduled for June in the USA and the West Indies.
"A couple of times (I've spoken to him). It's really exciting for him that hopefully he's going to get back to performing because as a captain, he's someone you want to throw the ball to," Buttler said while speaking at an event to promote Major League Cricket, as quoted by India Today.
