The ODI World Cup 2023 is right around the corner. The marquee event is all set to begin on October 5 with defending champions England kicking off the proceedings in Ahmedabad by taking on New Zealand. With the tournament rapidly approaching, England would be keen on doing their best to try to defend their title.

As the preparations continue, ODI skipper Jos Buttler took center stage and opined that many veteran players could still be added to England’s squad for their upcoming ODI series against Ireland as the side wants to give every chance to the players to find their form ahead of the World Cup.

Talking after winning the recently concluded series against New Zealand, Buttler talked of the ever-increasing experience in England’s squad and emphasized the importance of giving the freedom to the experienced players to perform.

"We've tried to be a really loyal team and selection panel throughout, it's something Eoin Morgan and Trevor Bayliss started. If you ask people to play in an aggressive way, and then leave them out as soon as it goes wrong, it sends the wrong message. We're asking people to take risks so there will be failures along the way," Buttler was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.

"I wouldn't call it 'Dad's Army' but we're an aging group," he added. "We've got a lot of experience in the format, so it won't take quite as long to get back to feeling completely at home in 50-over cricket," he added.

You can let the dust settle on the series: Buttler

Buttler also talked of the last-minute changes that could be made to the England squad for the World Cup. The star batter opined that he is keeping an open mind over the squad changes.

"Yes, obviously [the thinking about the squad] changes, We've played a series, so now you can let the dust settle on the series. Obviously, we've had a few injury niggles as well around a few players, so we can just gather a bit of information on that and then we can finalize the squad," Buttler said.
