David Miller set the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, ablaze on Thursday, July 13, as he helped Texas Super Kings (TSK) start the Major League Cricket 2023 on a winning note against the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR). The South African batter smacked 61 off 42 balls smashing two fours and four sixes in his innings as he helped TSK post 181/6 in the first innings.
In reply, LAKR were bundled out for 112 handing a 69-run win for TSK. Reflecting on his knock, Miller revealed that he took a month-long break after the end of the IPL 2023 and only began practicing two days ahead of the opening game.
"Good to get off to a good start. A win there for the team is great. A month off since the IPL and only been practicing the past couple of days. Great being in Texas. The mental side of the game is a bit of a test. I am 34 now, so just trying to maintain the body and keep that going" said Miller after an explosive innings of 61 off 42 balls laden with 2 fours and 4 sixes.
He further added he was a bit apprehensive before coming to the USA ahead of the tournament but was happy to see the facilities that have been created.
It's just fantastic, It was a full house: Miller
"Coming from South Africa, I think chatting to a lot of the overseas guys, there was a little bit of apprehension, not too sure how it's gonna pan out. But you know, coming here a couple of days ago, just seeing the facilities and what they've created. It's just fantastic. It was a full house. So exciting stuff, and I really look forward to what lies ahead for the MLC and it was good to have an overwhelming support for the home team, the Texas Super Kings,” he added.
In IPL 2023, Miller had a mixed season as he scored 259 runs from 13 innings at an average of 32.37 and a strike rate of 145.50. However, he has got his MLC campaign off to a good start with a splendid half-century. The 34-year-old will hope to emulate his knock in Texas’ next game against Washington Freedom on Sunday, July 16 at the same venue.
