He became the fastest player to reach 32 Test centuries, surpassing the previous record held by Australian great, Steve Smith.
Facing a challenging target of 267 runs on a tricky pitch at Seddon Park, Hamilton, Williamson led the charge for New Zealand, challenging the South African bowlers with his composure. Despite the visiting team's initial advantage after taking a first-innings lead, Williamson's masterful innings swung the momentum back in favor of the home team.
Kane Williamson hits his 32nd Test century
On Day 4 of the second Test, Williamson reached his century in 203 balls, anchoring New Zealand's chase effectively. His innings proved to be the key to New Zealand's victory.
This century marked Williamson's third in the last four innings, highlighting his exceptional form throughout the series. In the first Test, he set the tone with scores of 118 and 109, becoming only the fifth New Zealand batsman to achieve twin centuries in a Test match.
Despite facing a stern challenge from the South African bowling attack, Williamson exhibited his grit and determination, refusing to give away his wicket easily. His gritty knock of 43 in the first innings laid the foundation for his heroic century in the final innings.
His century not only propelled him to the elite list of players with 32 Test hundreds but also cemented his position as one of the finest batsmen in modern-day cricket. Williamson became the fastest player to reach 32 Test centuries, achieving the feat in just 172 innings. The record was previously held by Steve Smith who registered 32 centuries in 174 innings.
