The Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, where India took on Bangladesh in the second Test of the series from September 27 to October 1, has recently earned an "unsatisfactory" rating from the ICC (International Cricket Council). The rating comes with one demerit point for the venue.

On day 1 of the second Test, only 35 overs of play were possible, with no play being possible on days 2 and 3 due to wet outfield. Furthermore, before the start of the game, the public works department had deemed one of the stands unsafe, even instructing the authorities to make only a limited amount of upper-level seats available to the spectators.

Speaking of the game at the Green Park Stadium, despite missing out on several days, losing ample time did not seem to affect Team India. Rohit Sharma’s men managed to squeeze out a victory, taking 20 Bangladesh wickets within 121.2 overs and putting in an aggressive display with the bat.

India managed to limit Bangladesh to a score of 233 runs in the first innings and came out to bat with a clear plan in mind. After a brilliant performance with the bat, India scored 285 runs in the first innings before they declared and then bundled out Bangladesh for just 146 runs, giving themselves a target of 95 runs to chase down in the second innings. In the end, India won the game by seven wickets.

However, in some good news for the venue, the pitch for the game received a 'satisfactory' rating. It is interesting to note that the ICC rates all the outfields and pitches on a scale of very good to unfit. Very good, satisfactory, unsatisfactory, and unfit are the four ratings that the scale works upon.

One demerit point is set for a venue with an unsatisfactory rating, with three for an unfit rating. Furthermore, if a venue manages to receive five or more demerit points under five years, it gets suspended from hosting any international games for a year.
