Karnataka completely dominated the proceedings in a miraculous turnaround of the events in a warm-up game with the Asian Games-bound Indian team at the Alur grounds on Friday, September 22. The second-string national team batted first in the encounter but they had a nightmare on the day as the state bowlers of Karnataka wreaked havoc on the batters with their supreme rhythm. As a result, the Indian team were bowled out cheaply for a low total of 133 runs.
Speaking of the warm-up fixture, in notable performances for the Karnataka side, the pacers looked in good form as they kept things quite tight. This meant that they barely gave any freebie deliveries to the national players to make merry with the bat. Karnataka did not allow any leaked runs easily which frustrated the Indian batters. This was amply clear by the overall bowling figures of the young Karnataka bowlers.
Pacers V. Koushik (3/36) took a three-wicket haul while Manoj Bhandage starred with the ball for his side with a four-wicket (4/15) haul for the state. While in the spin department, the left-arm spinner Shubhang Hegde (3/17) too chipped in with a three-wicket haul for Karnataka.
Manish Pandey starred with the bat for Karnataka in a clinical run chase
Now, speaking of the game and the notable performances, for the India side who will be representing the country in the ongoing Asian Games in Huangzhou, China, Yashasvi Jaiswal (31) did get some start but failed to capitalise on it. Apart from him Prabhsimran Singh (49) showed some good hand but missed out on his half-century by a whisker.
For the Karnataka batters, things did not look difficult as the bowlers of the national side failed to keep their line and lengths tight in their bid to defend a low-scoring total. Consequently, the veteran batter, Manish Pandey, played a superb knock and remained unbeaten (52*) for a well-deserved half-century to finish the game for Karnataka in just 19.1 overs.
