The Ranji Trophy team Vidarbha batter Karun Nair has disclosed that before exiting from team Karnataka in 2023, he had preferred joining the Kerala team and even approached the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA). Nevertheless, when discussions did not move ahead as expected, he decided to move to Vidarbha instead.
The 33-year-old elaborated that he was exploring his options at the time and made a move to reach out to KCA. However, as talks with Kerala were delayed, Vidarbha came forward with an offer, demanding him to make a quick decision. Karun professed that he wasn’t placed in such a way at that time, to wait any longer. He wanted to regain clarity and stability in his cricket career. Furthermore, when asked if there was any possible chance to move to Kerala in the future, Karun left the way open.
"There were discussions about it. When I was sure I was going to leave Karnataka, I was looking at my options. There was some talk about it, but it didn't go forward," Nair said as per the Malayalam news Channel 24.
"I had offered myself to KCA, but it didn't materialize. At the same time, I got an offer from Vidarbha. I wasn't in the best spot mentally, and I needed to clear my mind. The only way to do that was by joining a team, so I decided to go with Vidarbha. You never know. If a situation like that comes up, we will see," he added further.
