KCL 2024: Malayalam Superstar Mohanlal launches inaugural season

Famous Malayalam actor, Mohanlal, launched the Kerala Cricket League (KCL), on Saturday, August 31. The league will be held at the Greenfield International Stadium, in Thiruvananthapuram.

Notably, the 33 games of the league will be held from September 2 to 18. Sports Minister V Abdurahiman unveiled the trophy. Moreover, Mohanlal is also the brand ambassador of the state’s league. The other notable people who attended the event were Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) president Jayesh George, KCA secretary Vinod S Kumar, and KCL chairman Nazar Machan, respectively.

A total of six teams will vie for the coveted trophy, namely, Trivandrum Royals, Kochi Blue Tigers, Thrissur Titans, Calicut Globstars, Kollam Sailors, and Alleppey Ripples. As per OnManorama, the inaugural match will be played between Alleppey Ripples and Thrissur Titans on (Monday) September 2. The second match will be held between Trivandrum Royals and Kochi Blue Tigers. The final league game will be played on September 16, followed by the semifinals on the subsequent day.

Samson to skip inaugural edition, entry will be free for fans for KCL games

In a welcoming gesture, there will be no entry fee for the spectators to watch KCL games live from the stadium. The star India cricketer from Kerala, Sanju Samson will give a miss to the inaugural edition of the league. He was announced as the icon player of the tournament.

The dashing batter could have represented his local franchise, Trivandrum Royals, had he not decided to take part in the league. In his absence, P A Abdul Basit has been named as the icon player for the Royals. For the unversed, Basit is also part of Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, where Samson leads the side.
