'Keep all those shots in your back pocket'- Sunil Gavaskar critcises Gill's shot selection on Day 3 of 3rd Test
Former India legend Sunil Gavaskar criticizes Shubman Gill's performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy
KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have shown a little fight on Day 4 of the 3rd Test at The Gabba, but the Indian batting struggles are not over. Australia are still in control, with the Indian batting line-up down to its last batting pair.
The Indian team's batting in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar trophy is being criticised heavily. Except for KL Rahul no one from the top order has scored well. Apart from the performances of Indian legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, a lot was expected from Shubman Gill as well who is one of the upcoming young stars in the game.
However, his performance in the series so far has been very lacklustre. This was enough to get the attention of the former India legend and commentator Sunil Gavaskar who had a huge problem with his shot selection in the 5-match series so far.
“Leave your image in the dressing room. Certain shots are dangerous at the start of your innings before you are set, and you don't have the measure of what the wicket is doing," Gavaskar said speaking exclusively on Star Sports.
Gavaskar supported his statement and highlighted Gill’s dismissal in the 3rd Test off Mitchell Starc's over where he was caught chasing a wide one and edging it to Mitchell Marsh who took an exceptional catch in the gully region.
“Keep all those shots in your back pocket. Take them out when you are 30-40-50 not out, then can you get those shots again? Not a very good shot selection, you could say. It was a very good catch, so there was a little bit of bad luck as well over there. But he could have left that ball alone,” Gavaskar added.
Shubman Gill has scored only 60 runs in 3 innings that he has featured in and is averaging only 20. This is a huge drop compared to his last performance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy back in 2021 where he scored 259 runs at an average of 51.80.
